What Is A Barn Cat
A barn cat is an outdoor cat that is not quite suited for living inside a home.
What is a barn cat. They prefer an independent living setting such as a barn or outbuilding. However in my own experience i have seen a few barn cats take up with the dog and a few goats too. They eat assorted vermin such as rodents and other small animals that live in or around outbuildings and farm fields. If you feel a collar is necessary purchase what is called a breakaway collar.
These cats usually prefer minimal to no human contact and are not suited to be indoor cats. Barn cats are not necessarily great companions for the farmer but they are often great companions to other animals. That said certain cats might be a better fit for the barn cat life. We chose to not use collars on our barn cats.
The farm cat also known as a barn cat is a domestic cat usually of mixed breed that lives primarily out of doors in a feral or semi feral condition on agricultural properties usually sheltering in outbuildings. The term barn cat can apply to any cat that helps keep a barn or other outdoor area vermin free. The barn cat can get the collar caught on something get caught in a fight with another animal catch the collar on a tree branch or other mishap with dire results. They instead feel more comfortable in a working environment where they can patrol a barn stable farm shed brewery or even a warehouse.
Sometimes these cats were given a chance to live indoors but they were unhappy or displayed negative behaviors that didn t make them suitable to be house cats or pets. The need for the farm cat may have been the original reason.
